  • Do restore a book before it gets worse!
  • Do keep books out of extreme elements such as heavy, concentrated lighting, direct sunlight or leaving in car.
  • Do store tall and large books or books with flexible covers by laying them flat rather than standing.
  • Do place a book in the freezer if you see signs of bugs, fungus or mildew.
  • Do clean leather books periodically, and have a qualified binder feed the leather every 2-5 years.

  • Don't pick a book up by one of the coverboards
  • Don't use books as "file cabinets" by placing newspaper clippings (that contain a lot of acid) and other "keepsakes" in them.
  • Don't take hold of a book, when removing from a shelf, at the top of the spine.
